"What do you think?"

I remember the first time I asked this to one of my new employees, in response to a question she asked me about a scenario she encountered.
She stared back at me for a second. And then she repeated her question.
I simply smiled, and asked her again.
"What do YOU think we should do?"
She slowly cracked a smile. She then shared her idea - thought out, well articulated, and passionate.
So, we
went with it.
To this day, I don't remember the question she asked me, but I do remember the way she stood a little taller in my office doorway as she passionately detailed her idea that she was about to go hit a home run with.
Her idea, not mine. (which was better than mine, anyways)
"What do you think?"
4 simple words.
4 words that communicate:
- Trust
- Belief
- Confidence
- Commitment
When we BELIEVE in our people, we bring out the BEST in our people.
Stephen R. Covey said, “Leadership is communicating to people their worth and potential so clearly that they come to see it in themselves” (Covey, 2013). This is such a great depiction of our role as authentic leaders. How do you convey your belief in those you lead? Are they confident in making decisions without you? Do they feel your support and trust in them? As a leader, this takes intentionality, connection, and a willingness to say, “Go for it - I have your back.”
Our organizations are filled with untapped potential, and it is our privilege as leaders to remove the lid and foster a culture where our people are empowered and believed in.
So, in what ways can you foster this in your team this week? Look for opportunities and watch your team grow!

Often times it is with the best intentions, but can driven by fear, shame, or other lies that might be stealing from your life. 2. WHAT is the COST of living like this? Many of us find ourselves overextended, stretched thin, and out of alignment from our priorities. 3. WHO deserves your best? There is only one you, and you have those in your life who count on you, need you to be fully present, and truly deserve the best of you. A one-on-one trip is something I do with each of my sons when they turn 10, and Judah chose Legoland and a chance to see Messi play. This past week, one of our staff members of 25 years passed away after an extended battle with cancer. As a staff, we reminisced with grateful hearts, while we mourned the loss of a friend and colleague. Over the past month, I took some time away from social media to process the death of my biological father. A difficult season I did not anticipate. One of processing pain, facing emotions, and looking inward. Yet, it has been a season of some of my greatest breakthrough, clearest vision, and deepest comfort. In every season there is a crossroads. Avoid pain or process it. Run from your emotions or lean into growth. When we embrace what we are facing, there is hope and strength. I’ve had to practice what I preach in ways that have stretched me and challenged me. But in all things, I know this: God is good. He is the only true source of comfort, and is way better than we even know.Button -
